We got to Bobber & Elena’s at about 9 on Friday night, and spent most of Saturday preparing Thanksgiving dinner. RoZ worked on the stuffing, Bobber & Elena worked on everything else, and Obbie tried to keep up on any chopping or dishwashing that needed to be done.
Early in the evening a lot more of their friends – most of them German – showed up to take part in a traditional American Thanksgiving meal. This was a new experience for many of them. After all of our adventures with the foods of other cultures, it was interesting watching people of other lands having their own adventures with American food.
Sunday was a day for errands. We did what could be our last load of laundry in Europe, as our flight home is scheduled to leave London the following Friday.
Then we took a trip to Bobber’s office to do Internet stuff, mainly sending and receiving email and web site updates. After so many communication snafus along the way, it was nice that everything worked flawlessly.
Back at the house, we repacked our stuff and got a couple of packages together to ship home on a slow boat. On our way out of town Monday morning we spent some time at the post office getting our shipment on its way.
We have to plan the best way to use the four days left to travel and two “travel days” on our rail pass. We’ve decided to chill out for a couple of days in Belgium, using one travel day to get there and our last travel day to get to London on the Eurostar. To get to Brussels, we need to take the Rhine valley train from Freiburg back to Köln, and transfer to a Thalys train from Köln to Brussels.
Reservations are mandatory for the Thalys train, and there’s a supplemental fare for this “premium” train. We need to allow time to go through the ticket line to make those reservations before we board our northbound train out of Freiburg.
