Week 8 – Hamburg, Christiania, Haarlem

On the way from Berlin to Copenhagen, we do a quick Beatles pilgrimage during an overnight stop in Hamburg.

Seeking some time in the countryside, we find it in Christiania, an independent enclave within Copenhagen.

Then we pass through Bremen and Osnabruck on our way to a rest day in Haarlem.

Our train from Hamburg to Copenhagen takes a ferry along the way, and we get there just in time to be introduced to the Freetown of Christiania.
We make friends with some citizens of Christiania, and explore the rewards and challenges of such a social experiment.
A second day of admiring the public art and improvisational living in Freetown Christiania.
We retrace our steps from Copenhagen back to Hamburg, and continue on to the port city of Bremen.
A travel day from Bremen to The Netherlands, with a layover while changing trains in Osnabruck.
We catch our breath in Haarlem, a small city that's less hectic and expensive than Amsterdam, which is only a 15-minute train ride away.
